Frequently Asked Questions
Are there separate charges for phone calls or quick questions outside of scheduled meetings?
We provide unlimited client support through chat in our client portal and email. When a live conversation is needed, we’ll schedule a meeting, but our default is to work asynchronously so your questions can be answered clearly without adding unnecessary calls to your calendar. If a request falls outside your current service scope, we’ll let you know before additional work begins.
How do you charge for your services (hourly rate, flat fee, retainer)?
Our ongoing services are billed as a monthly flat fee, so you have predictable support instead of surprise hourly invoices. Tax returns are billed as a separate flat fee, typically with a 50% deposit and the remaining 50% due when the return is filed. If a project falls outside the agreed scope, we’ll discuss pricing before moving forward.
Can you remind me – are you a CPA? Can you file taxes?
Yes to both. Prospera has three CPAs on staff, and we prepare and file tax returns for our clients. We do our best tax work when it is connected to the bigger financial picture, so our tax services are typically part of an ongoing relationship that includes accounting, planning, or advisory support.
What type of businesses do you work with?
We are industry agnostic, but we do have a few areas where our experience is especially strong. We work very well with businesses in the AEC space (architecture, engineering, and construction) because our team understands how project-based firms operate, how revenue and expenses move through the business, and how important clear reporting is for making confident decisions. About half of our current client base is in the AEC industry, and roughly 40% of that group is made up of architecture firms. We also work with other professional service businesses that need stronger financial systems, better visibility into profitability, and more strategic support around cash flow, planning, and growth. Our best-fit clients are usually businesses that have moved beyond basic bookkeeping and need a more thoughtful accounting relationship. They want clean financials, clear communication, and a team that can help them understand what the numbers are actually saying. That said, we are not the best fit for every business model. We generally do not serve manufacturing companies or businesses with large
What is the typical size and structure of the businesses that you work with?
We serve clients that are just starting out and up to about $20M in revenue, depending on the team structure and needs. We serve closely held businesses. We don’t work with clients that have private equity interests or are looking to raise capital. Our goal is to change the lives of families by helping businesses thrive.
What kind of clients do you typically work with? Individuals? Businesses?
We focus specifically on small businesses and business owners. While we do prepare individual tax returns, our individual tax work is generally for the owners of the businesses we serve, not standalone personal tax clients. Our best-fit clients are usually growing businesses that need more than basic bookkeeping. They want clean financials, clearer reporting, and a team that can help them understand what is happening in the business, not just record transactions after the fact. We work well with owners who are trying to make better decisions around cash flow, profitability, taxes, planning, and sustainable growth. Many of our clients are professional service businesses, including firms in architecture, engineering, construction, and other service-based industries. These businesses often have project-based revenue, changing workloads, and important decisions to make about pricing, hiring, capacity, and margins. That is where strong accounting and financial strategy can make a real difference. We are not typically the right fit for individuals who only need a simple personal tax return. Our work is designed for business owners
